Already Slacking!

Christmas and New Years have been crazy time! But so much fun. Tuttle is doing REALLY well. He was listing to the right around Christmas, and I checked the water perimeters, which were all super safe, and even had the GOOD local fish store check and confirm. I treated him with Coppersafe because I had it, and the shop I had purchased him from is NOTORIOUS for velvet. He's stopped with that now so I'll let it slide.I will have pictures soon! Just gatta get them off my phone and Im feeling lazy. Cheers!

Hey, I can link my phone to Blogger! Boom!

Wow! Tumblr Explosion!

So I am also posting this new iteration on tumblr and its gone viral! And I have learned some new things.

1. Tumblr is troll Central. So many self righteous people parading thier beliefs and shaming anyone who doesn't agree. I get trying to educate, that's what this blog is about, but telling people their evil and screaming abuse without education is, well, the worst. It's a Witch Hunt on there. Good thing I could care less. I have seen true abuse, I have had to scrape the brains of a beloved pet off the floor then testify against the assailant, only to see them get off easy because its just a lamb and they were high. Trolls don't scare me. True evil does.

2. I would have cared more when k was younger, but now, like the honey badger I'm not giving a.... Well you know

At any rate at least attention will be on little Tuttle and his growth! He says good morning all.

Goldfish 2.0- Tuttle

Wow, time flies when your... I dunno, lost in the universe. I'm back in California, have been for years. Today I decided to reboot the experiment! for $0.17 I purchased one small comet goldfish. In the following weeks I will post about how fast a regular goldfish can grow and why 10 gallons should be the bare minimum amount of space for one. I have to admit at about 1 inch (including all of the tail) This 10 gallon tank does seem like over kill.

So as we all know, and from my past entrees, baby goldies have a rough life and don't always make it past the first few weeks at home, so if this little one doesn't make it, I will be replacing it. sad but true. The tank kit I am using came from a PetSmart that was closing and I was able to pick it up for $15!!

The spects for now:

One TetraPro 10 Gallon Tank
One TetraPro 10 gallon ank florescent light hood
One TetraI intank filter (till I find my Aquaclear20)
OmegaOne Brand goldfish flakes
One Comet Goldfish

What makes a goldfish a Comet or a Common? Comets have long flowing single tails and commons have short stiff tails. These are the little guys you find in the feeder tanks at pet shops, which is where this guy came from.

I have named him Tuttle, after the comet (get it? a famous comet? your not laughing i don't think you got it) I set the tank up a few days ago, which was a kit I found on clearence for $15. Today I purchased Tuttle and the OmegaOne so it would be fresh. Tuttle came from the feeder fish bin at PetCo and cost 17 cents. He appears healthy and active

Lets see how long I remember to do this!

Gratiot Passed

I think its just too hot in this apartment for goldfish. The water checked out but poor little fry guy just didn't make it. He was fine when I went off to work. The experiment will restart in California. :) Until then, be safe, be happy and rest easy little friend

Ypsi is no longer with us

Ypsilanti didnt make it through my work shift. He was gone when I came home. Im sad but not surprised, he was very stressed and hiding a lot. plus he was a feeder from an unhealthy batch. So hopefully from now on its just Gratiot, which really is better for the experiment. That tiny little fry is happy as a clam though!

Tank Upgrade and Bad Choices :)

Ok, first things first, Tiny's name is now Gratiot! Yay! (Grat-chiot) Gratiot now had a friend, Ypsilanti! Bad choice? maybe. I dont need another common, but I couldnt just leave this guy:

He's superunique looking, and about 1.5 inches long, so you can see how tiny Gratiot really is

Things are looking good on the fish front!

Two Spot is gone

Tiny is still strong though. But the larger one with two spots passes today. He had been hiding today, and his belly looks odd, even in the healthy looking pictures. But the little guy is super healthy! Its also been crazy amounts of hot... bummer. Tiny needs a real name! Any ideas?

Day Three

Hello all! So the babies are already starting to grow! I don't think I mentioned before, but the one with 2 spots and the longer tail was *just* bigger then the one spot and short tail. They are getting friendly-er as well! Im going to be increasing their feeding schedual, from 2X a day to 3-4 is I can swing it.

I'm getting advise on moving from my old beloved forum Koko's Goldfish World. If you ever have goldfish questions their the people!

Day Two- All is well

The little guys are swimming around and seem happy. I am feeding API goldfish because I got it for free at work. He he! When they get larger I plan on switching them to a Hikari formula unless someone has a better suggestion. So not much exciting :) By the way, my goldies are the size of this little pig toy.

Day Two pictures!

What can you get for $0.13?

I know the answer to this whole experiment, but I want people to see, first hand what happens to feeder fish who don't get fed. All of us has prolly flushed thousands of these poor little guys over the years as failed carnival pets, bowl obsessions and what ever else. Of course this is a terrible time for me, as Im about to move cross country, but we'll also see how goldfish travel! :) So here are my little guys, assuming they live.

Their about half an inch long today. They are currently in a 3 gallon critter keeper with a Tetra 3i. When we move they will be moved into a much bigger tank :) Lets see what happens!
